We support a collaborative process
which maximizes existing resources
and explores new ways to better
access health, information, and
human services for children and
families in the Havana School
District Area.

Our Community Action Plan includes the following Goals & Outcomes:

Goal One: To improve and broaden community awareness of current as well
as new human service resources available in the area.
Greater and more effective use of current and new resources
and human services in the Havana area by more effectively
marketing these opportunities to target families with pre-
school and school age children who may need it most.

Goal Two: To create and/or promote positive activities and
opportunities for youth and their families in safe,
non-threatening environments within the community.
More opportunities for students to engage in
meaningful activities linked to school and
community resources.

Goal Three: To improve parenting skills and encourage
activities that advance the educational, social, and
emotional development of youth.
Increased number of adult participants in
various parenting initiatives around the community.

Goal Four: To nurture child well-being within the
community by promoting mentoring activities that
stress prevention-related lifeskills for children at risk.
An increase in the number of children receiving
mentoring services by the Mason County Mentoring
Parenting Team from July 2000 through June 2001 as
compared to the same time period of the previous year.

Goal Five: To enhance student education by
promoting tutoring activities for children at academic
risk in the Havana School District.
An increase in the number of children receiving
tutoring services in the second and third grades.

Project Success focuses on strengthening the family and the community by building a network of state agencies, local services providers and schools to achieve the following goals of Project Success:

to improve the child and family well-being
by providing services that stress school
    success, local empowerment, and parental
    involvement;

to support systematic changes which improve collaboration, coordination, and resource sharing between state and local agencies.

Each Project Success community embraces one or more of the
six core components of the project. Each component is viewed
as an important guide for healthy families and communities.

preventive and primary health care
proper nutrition and nutrition education
preventive and rehabilitative mental health service
services that will protect and promote the stability
   of the family
substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment
positive family social activities
