Havana's Eagle Days Festival

Enjoy "Breakfast with a Raptor."
Start out the day with "Breakfast with an Eagle." 6:30-10:00AM. Pancake & sausage breakfast will take place at the First United Methodist Church, 101 S. Broadway, Havana. Breakfast goers from 8:00-9:00AM will enjoy a visit by a special guest raptor. Cost: $4 adult, $3 children (12 & under)

Eagle Days Festival Events
At Riverfront Park from 8AM-Noon:

  • Local volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and help visitors view eagles thru spotting scopes. Complimentary hot beverages for eagle watchers provided by The Nature Conservancy.
  • Visit "Emi" Eagle at Riverfront Park from 9:00-11:00AM and have your free, souvenir picture taken with Emi in her larger-than-life eagle's nest.
  • Take a unique, interpretive tour of Bellrose Island Nature Trail -- "The Un-Natural Nature Hike" and Ride the Arctic Express, a FREE shuttle from Riverfront Park.
  • Stop by the Illinois Natural History Havana Field Station for a tour of the facility. Learn about some other interesting Illinois River critters.

Visit the Riverside Club
10:00AM - 1:00PM. Stop in and warm up with hot beverages, hearty provisions and energizing desserts. Enjoy "Hey, We're Raptors Too!" presented by Wildlife Prairie State Park.

The Mason County Arts Council in partnership with the Fulton County Arts Council will be displaying entries from the Illinois Winter Wildlife Photography Show. Everyone is invited to enter their favorite photo of Illinois winter wildlife. Participants will be required to submit $2 per entry. There will be three categories: Youth (17 and under), Amateur and Professional. Winning entries will be judged by People’s Choice while on display at The Riverside Club during Havana’s Eagle Days Festival to be held this year on February 5, 2005. Entries may be dropped off at the Havana Public Library District from January 25, 2005, through February 3, 2005, during normal library hours; 11AM-8PM Monday thru Thursday, 1PM-6PM on Fridays and 10AM-5PM on Saturdays. Deadline for entries will be 7:00PM on February 3. No late entries will be accepted. Eagle Art on Display
10:00AM-1:00 PM. The winners of the 2004 Mason & Fulton County Eagle Days Festival Art Competition will be on display at the David Alan Badger Gallery. Stop by and view artwork submitted by contestants in the 1-12 grades. View the artwork & poetry judges' choices

Live Birds of Prey Shows by The Illinois Raptor Center
There will be three shows this year presented by The Illinois Raptor Center: 10:30-11:30 Raptors 101; 1:00-2:00 Red Tail Hawks; 2:30-3:30 Illinois Night Shift – Nocturnal Birds of Prey. Havana Park District Gym, 127 E. Jefferson. Cost: $2 per person per show; $5 for all three. For ticket sale information, call the Nature Conservancy at (309) 547-2730. Tickets can be purchased at the door before each show. Refreshments and nature-related merchandise will be available inside the gym before and after each performance. Doors open at 9:30AM.

Havana Public Library Eagle Festival Family Story Hour
9:00-10:00AM and 12:30-1:30PM. Enjoy eagle games, prizes and eagle-related crafts. Hear legends and foktales about the American bald eagle. Located at 201 W. Adams Street. For information call (309) 543-4701.
