On March 29th, the Havana Public Library District will begin welcoming patrons back into the library building by appointment. In accordance with state government guidance, the library must limit its occupancy to 25% of its capacity. The appointment system is in place to assure compliance with this small occupancy limit. All persons over the age of two entering the library must wear a mask or face covering that covers the nose and mouth. Patrons must also maintain a six-foot distance from other patrons when practicable and when requested by staff. Reasonable accommodations such as curbside service and online resources are available to those who are medically prevented from or decline to wear a face covering.
Beginning on March 29th, the Havana Public Library District will shift to its normal summer hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please call the library at 309-543-4701 or email us at info@havana.lib.il.us to schedule a time to come in. Appointments are made in 30-minute timeslots and patrons may schedule only one appointment at a time. Patrons may make an appointment to browse the collection, check out materials, or to read a newspaper onsite. Public computers will be available for use and staff will continue to provide scanning, faxing, and printing services. Appointments may also be made with librarians for information inquiries and reference services. The local history and genealogy collection is not available for public use at this time; staff will provide reference service for patrons requiring local history or genealogy information. The library will continue to offer contactless curbside services. All library materials are being quarantined upon their return and the Reaching Across Illinois Library System is requiring a quarantine of all outgoing materials; this may result in longer waits for materials. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times. Toys, puppets, soft furnishings, and the Keurig station have been removed for the duration of the pandemic. In-person programming and meeting room rental remains suspended. Havana Public Library District staff are currently planning a summer reading program that will incorporate make and take activity packets with outdoor programming. If you have questions, please contact the library.
The library’s outdoor book return is now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please return all materials to the book return; staff cannot accept returns in-person. In accordance with our library system’s guidelines, all returned items are quarantined for 120 hours (5 days.) Expect returned items to remain on your account for several days before they are checked in. As always, we charge no late fines; we only charge for lost or damaged materials. All currently checked out items have a due date of July 13, 2020.
In addition to our online e-books, we are offering two new services—Curbside Delivery and Contactless Walk-Up Service.

A staff member will bring your items (packed in a new disposable bag) out to your vehicle and place them in your trunk.
